Recruiting: Open Book Admin Support (Job Share)

Open Book is looking for an administrator to support its work across Scotland. Working initially from home but then in our office in South Edinburgh (as soon as regulations allow it) this is a job share role with our existing administrator/volunteer coordinator.  The role will involve general office admin tasks to support the two directors and Operations Manager but in particular such things as preparing flyers and posters for groups using CANVA, working within our document management/communication platform on SLACK, and supporting our online groups using Eventbrite.

The role is a fixed term contract initially, running from 1 June 2021 –  28 February 2022. The role is for admin support on Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am – 2.30pm each day plus 2 hours on Wednesday (flexible but to fall between 9.30am and 2.30pm) to overlap with the job share partner  (12 hours per week).  Open Book are living wage employers and the salary is £9 p/h.

 

About Open Book

 

Since March 2013 Open Book (www.openbookreading.com ) has run shared reading and creative writing sessions for adults. In our 2020/21 year, we’ll deliver c. 1400 sessions in over 70 locations – the islands off Shetland, to Stranraer, on Uist and Tiree, in Aberdeen, Inverness, Dundee and in the Central Belt. We work in a number of sectors –  libraries, health care settings, with the elderly, refugees and migrants, community groups, prisons, libraries and other public settings and on Scottish islands. Stories and poems are read aloud then discussed in a relaxed, informal setting, with about one-third of the groups adding creative writing.  The majority of our groups read material written in English but we also have sessions run in Gaelic, Arabic and Scots.

 

Applicant Requirements

 

The successful applicant will:

  • Have an awareness of the particular demands of working in a charity/ the third sector
  • Have experience in working in an admin role as part of a team
  • Be able to work independently when required
  • Have an excellent eye for detail
  • Knowledge of / experience in using Canva, SLACK and Eventbrite is advantageous but not essential
