Open Book are commissioning new writing and supporting material for the Unbound programme. You can find more details on Open Book Unbound at https://openbookreading.com/unbound/.
Ten awards of £175 each will be made for the commission of new, previously unpublished writing of approximately 1000 words, plus 3 writing prompts and 3 discussion questions linking to the new work. Successful applicants may also be asked to record a short interview for the weekly podcast, and to suggest a publicly-available poem which in some ways connects to their new writing.
The application deadline is 5pm on Friday 1 May 2020 and the selected writers would need to produce the work by 1 June 2020.
How to apply
Please send a short email pitching the theme of one proposed piece, plus a short sample of your writing (approximately 500 words) by email to info@openbookreading.com.
We will select work by ten different writers; please only pitch one idea.
Successful applicants will be notified by email by 5pm on Wednesday 6 May.

Successful applicants will be notified by email. Open Book will also announce the winners through their social media channels and website and as such will require consent to release winners’ names.

While copyright will be retained by the writer, Open Book will require a copyright licence to reproduce the piece including but not limited to: use in the Open Book Unbound newsletter, with our online and in person groups, and in podcasts produced by Open Book for one calendar year from publication.

Payment will be made on receipt of the work, and an invoice, by Open Book.
